Not every customer should get reminder emails. Maybe they're a wholesale account, a VIP you manage manually, or someone who's asked to be removed from automated emails. Easy Reorder uses customer tags to handle these exceptions. Anyone tagged in Shopify can be excluded from your reminder system.
🛠️ How to set up excluded tags
In Easy Reorder, go to Emails → Settings
In Sending rules, find the Excluded customer tags box
Type a tag you want to exclude (for example wholesale, vip or no-emails) and press Enter. Repeat for each tag
Click Save in the bar that appears at the top
Any customer with one of these tags in their Shopify profile will never receive a reminder email from Easy Reorder, even if they have products due.
🏷️ Add tags to your customers
To exclude a customer, they need the matching tag in Shopify:
In Shopify Admin, go to Customers
Click on the customer you want to exclude
In the Tags section on the right, add the exclusion tag (e.g., no-emails)
Click Save
Tags aren't case sensitive, so VIP and vip count as the same tag.
💡 Common use cases
Merchants use excluded tags for:
🏢 Wholesale customers: usually managed via separate account-management workflows
👑 VIP customers: handled with personal outreach, not automation
🙋 Opted-out customers: anyone who asked to stop receiving emails (customers who click Unsubscribe in a reminder are stopped automatically)
🧪 Test accounts: internal team accounts
📋 Specific segments: anyone you want to message via a different channel
🔁 You can use multiple tags
The box takes as many tags as you need. A customer is excluded if they have any one of the listed tags, not all of them.
✅ Tag changes take effect right away
Easy Reorder checks a customer's current Shopify tags just before each email goes out. So if you add an excluded tag to someone who already has reminders scheduled, those reminders won't be sent. They show as Held on the Queued tab, with the reason "Excluded customer tag".
An email that has already been sent can't be taken back, of course.
If Easy Reorder can't read a customer's tags at that moment (for example, Shopify is briefly unavailable), it holds the reminder instead of risking an email to someone you meant to exclude. The reason shows as "Could not check the customer tags".
Customers with an excluded tag also can't pick a reminder date on your Thank you page.
📦 Leaving out products instead
The same Sending rules card has an Excluded product tags box. Products with those tags don't get reminders and don't show on your reorder page.
💡 Pro Tip: keep your tag conventions clean
Use a consistent naming pattern for exclusion tags across your team, something like no-reorder-emails or er-excluded. It makes it easy to audit your customer list later and clear up confusion if you have multiple apps using customer tags.
