If you sell subscriptions, you don't want Easy Reorder emailing someone to "reorder" a product they already get on a schedule. Easy Reorder is built to leave those items alone. For most stores there's nothing to set up, and if your app is an unusual one there's a setting for it (see below).
✨ How it works
Shopify marks every subscription item on an order with a selling plan. When a new order comes in, Easy Reorder checks each item for one. Items that have a selling plan are skipped, so they never get a reorder email.
This means:
✅ Subscription items are left to your subscription app and its own renewal emails
✅ One-time purchases still get reorder emails from Easy Reorder
❌ Subscription items don't get a duplicate reminder from Easy Reorder
🛒 Which subscription apps work?
Any app that sells through Shopify's selling plans. Most subscription apps do, so there's no integration to install. Appstle and Recharge tags are recognized automatically, and any other app works with Custom tags.
If your app doesn't use selling plans or tags, tell us which one it is and we'll take a look. See "Still have questions?" at the bottom.
⚙️ Tell Easy Reorder which tag your subscription app uses
Easy Reorder also reads the customer tags your subscription app adds, to know who has an active subscription. Customers with an active subscription show as On subscription and get no reminder.
Go to Settings → Subscriptions. Under Subscription app choose:
Auto-detect (Appstle, Recharge): the default. It knows the tags Appstle and Recharge add.
Custom tags: for any other app. Enter the Active subscriber tag (required), the tag your app adds to customers with an active subscription. You can also enter a Paused subscriber tag (optional). Paused customers are treated like any other buyer.
A note on the page shows what was found. Tags are read once a day, and right after you save. Without any subscription tags, Easy Reorder uses recent subscription orders instead.
🛠️ What if an order has both?
A customer might buy a subscription product and a one-time product in the same cart. Then:
🔁 The subscription item is skipped
🛒 The one-time item gets a normal reorder email
🔀 What if I use product substitution?
If you've set up a replacement for a discontinued product (see Substitute discontinued products with replacements), subscriptions still win. If the customer is already subscribed to the replacement product, they won't get the email.
👥 How subscribers look on the Customers page
Customers with an active subscription show an On subscription badge on Customers, and there's an On subscription tab to list them. They have no next order date, they don't count as due, and no reminder is needed. See Customers and reorder windows.
The badge comes from the subscription tags above. If your app doesn't add tags Easy Reorder knows, choose Custom tags in Settings → Subscriptions.
⚠️ What if I still see duplicates?
If a customer got an Easy Reorder email for something they also get on subscription:
Check the order in Shopify Admin. Open the order and make sure the item was sold with a subscription (a selling plan). A subscription that was set up outside Shopify's selling plans can't be recognized.
Exclude those customers. In Emails → Settings, add a tag to "Excluded customer tags", then tag your subscribers in Shopify. See Exclude customers from reminder emails.
Contact us. Send the order number and we'll look into it.
💡 Pro tip
Subscriptions and Easy Reorder suit different customers. Subscriptions are for people who've committed to buying regularly. Easy Reorder is for people who buy now and then and need a nudge to come back. Many stores use reorder emails to bring one-time buyers back, then offer them a subscription once they've reordered.
